About Neemuch

Neemuch or Nimuch city is the administrative headquarters of Neemuch District, one of the 51 districts of Madhya Pradesh state. The city and district may be one of the many in Madhya Pradesh state and also India, clearly stands out for its absolutely amazing history and immense economic importance. The city with its glorious history and beautiful locations is a must visit destination in the region. Brief History of Neemuch

Neemuch was a British military cantonment and was spelled as ‘Nimuch’ that actually stands out for North India Mounted Artillery & Cavalry Headquarters. Today however this place is spelled more as ‘Neemuch’ than ‘Nimuch’. Neemuch has a very special place in India’s independence history. This is beacuse Neemuch played a very significant role in India’s first war of independence of 1857. The war though was originated in Meerut’s military cantonment – located now in Uttar Pradesh state – the rebellion soon spread in military cantonments located in other towns too.

Neemuch also happened to be amongst those historical towns, where rebellion was so deep that serving British officers had to take refuge in nearby fort to save their lives. Neemuch’s cantonment army even made a courageous attempt to march towards Delhi to end British reign for once and all. Geography and Climate of Neemuch

Geographically, Neemuch is quite fertile with mineral rich region. There are huge reservoirs of minerals which has given boost to industries in the region. Neemuch coordinates at 24.45°N 74.87°E and is crisscrossed by two very important rivers namely Narmada and Gambir rivers. As for climate is concerned, then overall climate in neemuch is moderate . Temperature during summer season hovers around 40 degree Celsius and during winter it dips down to 20 degree Celsius; while annual average rainfall during monsoon season is around 833.9 mm. About NeemuchJust like all other districts, even Neemuch’s civic administration is taken care by various local bodies like Gram Panchayat and Nagar Palikas (municipal councils). As of today Neemuch has 239 Gram Panchayats and 12 Nagar Palikas. Besides, District Collector also has an important role to play in the day to day administration of Neemuch. Administratively, the entire Nemmuch district falls in Ujjain division. Nemmuch district though is one of the newly formed districts of Madhya Pradesh state. It came into existence only in 1998, when it was carved out of Mandsaur District for better and efficient administrative purpose. Neemuch city was duly made the district headquarter.
